Andrea Dean is a Senior Research Fellow at Georgetown University. Her work bridges software engineering and tech policy, focusing on AI governance, surveillance, labor, and the societal impacts of automation. Prior to coming to Georgetown, she spent seven years at Amazon Web Services as a software developer and engineering manager, where she built and led the deployment of privacy-sensitive machine learning, computer vision, and edge compute systems. Andrea has collaborated with the Algorithmic Justice League and the Knight-Georgetown Institute, and currently serves on the board of hackNY, a nonprofit fostering a diverse and responsible tech community. She holds a Master of Law and Technology from Georgetown University Law Center and a Bachelor’s in Mathematics and Computer Science from Lewis & Clark College.
