Marianna Poyares is a Fritz Fellow at Georgetown’s Center for Privacy & Technology. She is a scholar working at the intersection of human rights, critical data ethics, and science and technology studies. Combining OSINT, ethnographic, and legal research with normative inquiry, her work focuses on the democratic and social impacts of technologies that govern human mobility. She received her PhD from The New School for Social Research, holds an M.A. in Philosophy and in International Relations, and her research has been supported by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (CAPES), the Fulbright Program, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Humboldt Foundation, and the Fritz Family Fund. Before coming to Georgetown she worked with the International Rescue Committee, the Zolberg Institute for Migration and Mobility, the Brazilian National Truth Commission, and the United Nations Development Program.
